Now Available: Christian Reflections by St. Claude de la Colombière
I am pleased to announce the publication of Christian Reflections: Selected Passages from the Writings of St. Claude de la Colombière, now available on Amazon Kindle.
This short Catholic spiritual work brings together selected reflections from St. Claude de la Colombière, the great Jesuit saint closely associated with the devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
The book focuses on three essential themes of the interior life:
- submission to the Will of God;
- the spiritual value of adversities;
- perseverance in prayer.
A Rare Catholic Spiritual Work
Many older Catholic works remain difficult to find today. Some have not received new editions for modern readers, while others have remained largely inaccessible to readers in different languages.
Christian Reflections was prepared as part of an effort to recover and present older treasures of Catholic spirituality in a clear, faithful, and devotional form.
This is not a long or academic volume. It is a short work intended for spiritual reading, meditation, and reflection. Its purpose is simple: to help the reader grow in confidence in God, patience in suffering, and perseverance in prayer.
Who Was St. Claude de la Colombière?
St. Claude de la Colombière was a French Jesuit priest of the seventeenth century. He is especially remembered for his connection with St. Margaret Mary Alacoque and the spread of devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
His writings are marked by trust in Divine Providence, fidelity to the Will of God, and a deep spirit of prayer. He speaks with the seriousness and clarity of classic Catholic spirituality, but also with great tenderness toward souls who suffer, struggle, wait, and desire to love God more faithfully.
What This Book Is About
The first reflection, Submission to the Will of God, teaches that peace comes when the soul learns to trust God’s Providence in all circumstances. It invites the reader to see even difficult events in the light of faith, without bitterness or despair.
The second reflection, On Adversities, considers the value of suffering in the Christian life. St. Claude shows how God can use trials to purify the just, awaken sinners, detach the soul from created things, and lead it closer to Himself.
The third reflection, On Prayer, is a meditation on perseverance. It reminds us that God’s delays are not always refusals, and that the soul must continue to ask with humility, confidence, and constancy.
Why Read This Book?
This book may be especially helpful for readers who are facing uncertainty, suffering, discouragement, or unanswered prayers.
It is also suitable for:
- personal spiritual reading;
- Eucharistic adoration;
- retreat preparation;
- meditation on Divine Providence;
- readers devoted to the Sacred Heart of Jesus;
- Catholics interested in classic spiritual writings.
The reflections are brief, but profound. They are meant to be read slowly, prayerfully, and more than once.
